The Basics
I'm going to assume you've already learnt the basics, so I won't explain the picture above. If you're scratching your head, check out -
My discourse has more to do with the slight tap and shuffle of feet as you move forward and back. Stylish and experienced dancers drag their feet, more than an actual displacement. Mambo is the parent dance of Salsa and as the music got faster, it became increasingly difficult to incorporate all the moves, so Salsa was introduced with the gentle tap of the foot, instead of moving to all four beats. A common trend I've noticed in my students over a period of time, especially at night clubs (given the lack of space):
1) They actually start taking smaller steps (finally!)
2) There's more of a knee flex and pressing the toe into the floor
3) The heel doesn't lift as high as it did on their first few classes
